EDUCATION AND OUTREACH AT THE BEAD MUSEUM

The Bead Museum offers a multicultural, interdisciplinary education/outreach program as part of its mission to promote the study and public appreciation of beads and ornaments from ancient, ethnic and contemporary cultures.

School and youth groups in the Museum and off-site have included students from DC and MD public and private schools; special needs youth programs, and Girl Scout and Brownie troops from the area.   Programs for adult groups have included professional societies, docents from The Smithsonian Institutions, bead societies and special interest groups.

Even the casual visitor to the Museum can expect informed answers to bead questions, docent guidance in viewing exhibits and a wealth of informational materials.  Customized, carefully planned programs are offered for adult and school/youth groups. For all ages beads and ornaments provide an attractive, engaging entry into the serious study of foreign cultures.

Group Programs

interactive tours of the exhibits, supported by background materials and self-guided activity sheets for the young; opportunities to handle and examine beads and ornaments and hands-on bead craft projects.

Live Demonstrations by Artists
